Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch No. 24, Oloroso Sherry Cask, 2008, 60.2%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

At 60.2% ABV, this is a notably high-strength single malt, and the notes give it plenty of flavour to meet that presence: red apples and sherry on the nose lead into creamy, syrupy fruit on the palate. The long, spiced finish and slight smoke and peat keep the sweetness from reading as one-dimensional. A rich, warmly rounded direction, with enough contrast to make the high ABV feel like a deliberate feature rather than the whole point.
