Ardbeg Flip-flops up a chimney 8 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Cask #33.120, 2003, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 58.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

There’s a playful clash here: delicate candle smoke and sherbet on the nose, then tar, seaweed and roasted meats on the palate, softened by muscovado and dark chocolate mints. That’s a lot of character in a fairly compact age statement, and the lingering medicinal ash keeps it firmly in smoky, maritime territory. The SGD 238.48 listed sale-price reference is a serious spend, so this looks like a character-led choice rather than an easygoing everyday style. The sweet notes give the intensity some welcome balance.
