Ardgowan Clydebuilt Sailmaker, First-fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, 2022, 48%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

86 / 100

The dried fruit and orange notes give this a clear sherry-led character, while walnut, chocolate and spice add some welcome contrast. I like that the description includes oaky tannins as well as sweet vanilla and honey; that suggests a more varied balance than sweetness alone. The medium-long finish, with fruit and spice fading in and out, sounds appealing, though the oak may take a firm place alongside the richer notes.
