The fruit and wood details are the draw for me here. Stewed plums and ripe cherries sit alongside cocoa powder and a faint wisp of peat on the nose. The palate moves toward sweet red berries, cinnamon sweets and cedar bark, giving the fruit a spiced, woody counterpoint. That combination suits my preference for fruit without making this sound like a simple fruit-led whisky. The silky, oily texture also appeals, although the slightly drying finish, with damp wood and pencil shavings, may be less inviting if you prefer a softer close. As a six-year-old Highland single malt, it has a character I find interesting: the fruit remains prominent, while the peat is a subtle part of the nose rather than the main attraction.
