Arran Private Cask Waltz 10 Year Old, Sherry Hogshead Cask, Cask #2006/800/497, 2017, 58.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

82 / 100

The appeal is the contrast between caramel and honey sweetness and a distinctly spicy chili-pepper palate. The nose adds walnuts and fresh red fruit, giving the sweetness a livelier edge. There is a catch: the palate is described as less balanced and more youthful than the nose, and the fruit makes less of an impact there. A characterful combination, though the spice-sweetness interplay seems stronger than the overall balance.
