Auchentoshan 1972 21 Year Old Limited Release, Bourbon & Sherry Cask, 1993, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

91 / 100

The lightly peated designation gives this a gentler smoke cue, while the listed aromas put ripe berries, creamy vanilla and baked apple in the foreground. That contrast suits my preference for smoke to stay measured rather than dominate. The palate adds caramel, dry figs, roasted nuts and warming spice, and the long, light floral finish carries caramel and orange peel with subtle dryness. There’s plenty of detail without losing that easygoing balance.
