Balblair 1999 1st Release Travel Retail 17 Year Old, Bourbon & Sherry Cask, 2016, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The fresh green apple and citrus on the nose give this a lively start, while honey and vanilla bring a sweeter, softer side to the palate. I like that the finish returns to citrus and soft spice, with dried fruit adding another layer rather than taking over. There is a clear contrast between the brighter fruit and the sweet, spicy notes, which makes the character inviting without sounding too heavy. A balanced, appealing set of details, though the source gives less reason to expect a particularly bold or challenging style.
