The malty opening has real presence, while summer berry tart and a subtle Bakewell tart note keep the sweetness interesting rather than one-note. On the palate, immediate spice runs alongside tropical fruit juice and seaside fudge, before juicy pears and cream soften the edges. That shift appeals to me: the cinnamon and nutmeg have a point to make, but they don't get the entire agenda. Butteriness carries into a whisper of chocolate ice cream, then a long, dry finish provides a useful counterweight. There's enough change from start to finish to hold my interest, without the sweeter notes taking over. I'd favour that movement over a simpler, uniformly sweet whisky.
