Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Cask #81919, 2005, 47.8%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The citrus on the nose draws me in most. Vanilla cream and honey give it a softer side, alongside peach candy and floral notes. The palate takes a sweet, fruit-led direction, with vanilla, candied cantaloupe and pineapple. Toasty oak spices provide a useful counterpoint, while the creamy texture keeps the emphasis on that sweeter character. The finish moves toward pepper and sweet heat, with fruit and polished oak lingering. For my taste, the shift from soft fruit to oak spice is the most appealing part. The candy-like sweetness is less to my preference, but the spice keeps it from feeling one-dimensional. This is a fruit-forward whisky whose finish gives the sweetness some structure.
