Benriach 14 Year Old, Hogshead Cask, 2008, Vintage Bottlers, 48.3%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The stated 48.3% ABV is a useful point of context for a whisky whose character is already quite lively on the page. Lemon, elderberry and greener fruit give it a bright edge, while the bready notes and faint butterscotch offer some counterweight. The medium finish keeps that green-fruit thread going, with chocolate milk adding a softer turn. There’s plenty of detail here, though the acidic and grassy notes may make it less appealing to someone looking for a rounder, sweeter style.
