Milk chocolate and raspberry give this Benrinnes an inviting start, though the savoury bouillon note makes it less straightforward. Sticky dried fruits and rich sherry character follow on the palate, with deep oak adding a firmer counterpoint. The cocoa, spice and lasting sherried finish keep that richer character going. I usually favour softer malt and gentler spice, so the oak and savoury side make this a more qualified match for my taste. Still, the fruit and chocolate notes give it plenty of appeal. It seems best suited to someone who wants a pronounced sherry character and welcomes a savoury turn alongside the sweetness.
