Benromach Single Cask 8 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Cask #341, 2014, 61.9%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

I’m drawn to the lemon, creamy vanilla and yellow apple here, with the malt giving those brighter notes a fuller counterpoint. The palate’s butterscotch and candied ginger sound inviting, though lemon-rind bitterness and dry, earthy peat bring a firmer edge. That contrast gives the character more definition than a straightforward sweet bourbon-cask style. The eight-year age and single-cask designation are clear, while the tasting notes do the useful work of showing both the softer fruit and the lingering smoky, peppery finish.
