Blair Athol 12 Year Old, Fresh Sherry Butt Cask, Cask #2, 2008, Signatory Vintage, 54.3%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

Plum, dark chocolate and oak set a dark, rounded direction, then the palate moves into more concentrated dried fruit with leather, walnuts and coffee. I like the contrast between that intense, savoury middle and the spicy-sweet finish, which is also slightly dry and nutty. The mix of fruit, oak and coffee sounds especially appealing, with enough dryness to keep the sweeter notes in balance.
