The sweet smoke at the finish catches my attention, though I would not turn that into a claim about the whisky’s overall peat intensity. The nose brings dried plums and sultanas alongside sharper raspberries, with vanilla custard softening the contrast. Confectionery and stone fruits carry that sweet direction onto the palate, followed by soft toffee and hazelnuts. For my taste, the interesting relationship is between all that fruit-led sweetness and the lingering smoky close. Smoke gets a clear final word, but the notes leave its weight elsewhere open. That makes this appealing to me as a whisky with a smoky finish, rather than one I would choose on the assumption that smoke leads from start to finish.
