Bunnahabhain Barrel Selection 38 Year Old, Sherry Butt Cask, Cask #1, 1973, Wilson & Morgan, 41.2%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The finish is the most distinctive part here: complex and slightly mineral, with a pleasantly astringent, tannic edge alongside a light, rich character. That contrast gives it more to consider than a simple fruit-led impression. Mango, pineapple, passion fruit and grapefruit bring a pronounced sweet-sour interplay on the nose, while the palate keeps to fruit with traces of anise and pepper. A vivid, layered character, though the finish’s tannic side may not suit every preference.
