The finish is the fun part here: tropical fruits stay around for a long while, with earthy tobacco and fragrant wood giving them a darker, more layered edge. Earlier, waxy tropical and stone fruits meet sandalwood and earthy notes, while the nose brings honey, pollen and cigar-box-like wood. It’s a richly textured set of contrasts, and that lingering fruit against the drier, earthier notes makes this 37-year-old Speyside single malt especially compelling.
