Glen Mhor 1978 Original Cask 10 Year Old, 1978, Gordon & MacPhail, 65.3%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

There’s an engaging push and pull between the robust stone fruit and smoked lemons on the nose, then the palate turns oily, grippy and spicy, with candied fruit alongside leather and nuts. The finish’s peppery oak tannins bring a drier edge, balanced by lingering mint and sweet vanilla. That contrast gives the character some shape; the oak is a documented note, though it doesn’t establish a particular cask history. A compelling, assertive set of details, with the arid finish keeping it from feeling simply lush.
