Glen Moray 22 Year Old, 1962, Wm. Cadenhead, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

82 / 100

This leans into a quiet, earthy style rather than an easy burst of fruit. The dusty, oily opening and faint floral note sound restrained, while oranges, lemons, honey and ripe apples bring more lift on the palate, with a little marmalade bitterness to keep it from feeling too sweet. That shift, followed by hay and earthy spice on a relatively long finish, gives the character some welcome detail. Its mildness is part of the appeal, though it may not suit anyone looking for a bold, immediate dram.
