Glenfarclas 1974 Vintage 25 Year Old, Sherry Cask, 2000, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

This 25-year-old Speyside single malt has a clear sherry-led character, moving from syrupy fruit on the nose to richer fig cake, raisins, and almond fudge on the palate. The tobacco and pencil-shaving notes give that sweetness a more savoury edge, while the muted smoke and rubber add an unusual contrast. I like that the finish stays with toasted oak and spice rather than simply repeating the fruit. It sounds complex and substantial, though the more savoury notes may not suit every preference.
