The slight smoky note is a welcome detail, rather than the whole conversation: sherry, dried fruit and bitter chocolate lead, with the nose becoming sweeter and fruitier later. That shift gives the character some movement without losing its dry edge. The palate sounds full and energetic, though the astringency may keep it from feeling especially soft. I’m drawn to the balance of sherry richness and measured smoke here; neither needs to shout to be noticed. A thoughtful, characterful direction for a Speyside single malt.
