Glenfarclas The Family Cask 30 Year Old, Sherry Butt Cask, Cask #9256, Release S21, 2021, 51.9%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

Dark berries, cooked dark fruits, apple, pear, and raspberry give this a fruit-led centre, with rich sherry and chocolate adding depth. The palate brings more apple and pear alongside cherry and cranberry, but the firm tannins and initially astringent finish suggest a drier, more gripping edge than the sweeter fruit might imply. That contrast makes the character more interesting to me than an uncomplicated jammy style; the later fruity sweetness and light sherry notes offer a gentler close.
