Grand Macnish Blended Scotch Whisky, Oak Cask, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

76 / 100

The lively, young nose brings lavender and heather together with brown sugar and pear. There is also a slight musty note, which gives the opening a less tidy edge. On the palate, vanilla fudge and molasses sit alongside fresh summer fruits, while light cinnamon and pepper add some contrast. That spice suits my preferences, although the watery mouthfeel may make the flavours feel less substantial than their range suggests. The finish is short, with slight oaky bitterness and vague fruitiness, but a mellow impression lingers after the main flavours fade. That lingering softness is pleasant, even if the brief finish and thin texture keep this from being a more compelling blend.
