Hakushu 15 Year Old From The Barrel, 56%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

There is a pleasing shift from the sweet, aromatic nose into a richer palate of baked goods, roasted almonds, and coffee milk. The hint of mezcal-like smoke adds a measured point of contrast rather than taking over. I also like that the long, warming finish holds onto roasted coffee bitterness, giving the sweetness and creaminess a firmer edge. A layered character, though the coffee finish may not suit everyone.
