83 / 100

The nose brings corn, custard and candied citrus alongside old wood. On the palate, cream custard and orange peel meet lacquered wood and cinnamon, while the finish brings woody tannins and drying astringency. That progression gives the oak a substantial role, rather than leaving it quietly in the background. The fruit keeps the wood from being the whole story, with tropical fruit on the palate and peach, apple, pear and plum in the finish. There is plenty here to interest someone drawn to grain, fruit and oak, though the very woody palate and drying close are worth taking seriously. For me, that makes this Canadian whisky appealing but not especially easygoing.
