Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Brand, New Charred American Oak Cask, 1977, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

Light smoke appears on the nose, with barbecue charcoal noted on the finish, but smoke is not the main thread here. Toasty oak, corn, vanilla and caramel give the character a sweeter, barrel-led direction, with pepper and slight saltiness adding contrast. That balance suits an enthusiast interested in how smoke is documented without expecting every whiskey to be peat-driven. The new charred American oak cask is part of the stated product name; the notes also point to dry oak lingering through a medium-length finish.
