The relationship between the wood and sweetness is what catches my interest here. Toasted wood and oloroso sherry undertones give the mellow nose some shape, while the palate brings sweet wood together with nutty notes. Those are familiar flavours, but they have enough contrast to make this sound more engaging than a sweetness-led whiskey on its own. The exceptionally smooth finish fits the easygoing character without needing a bigger flourish. I tend to enjoy a clear spice-and-sweetness contrast, so my preference would pull me in a slightly different direction. Still, the wood and nuttiness offer a pleasing balance of their own, and there’s something appealing about a whiskey that keeps those flavours straightforward.
