Johnnie Walker Blue Label Celebrating Year of the Horse, 2014, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

85 / 100

The dark chocolate and cocoa give this a rich centre, but the fresh-cut grass and floral hints keep it from feeling one-note. I’m especially drawn to that grassy thread: it brings some freshness alongside the malt and chocolate, rather than making the whole character feel heavy. Hazelnut and subtle spice add detail on the palate, while the gentle smoke and lingering honey give the finish a softer turn. A composed, clearly described blend, though its richer side leads.
