Johnnie Walker Blue Label Dunhuang, Bottled 2023, Bourbon & Sherry Oak Cask, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The appeal here is the balance between dried-fruit sweetness and dry, lightly smoky character, with citrus and spice adding definition. The 40% ABV is a useful point of context: the notes describe a supple, layered palate rather than relying on a high-strength presentation. It’s a polished-sounding blend, though the sweet and smoky elements are doing most of the work for me; the listed warming finish suggests a more lingering close.
