Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ryder Cup Gleneagles 2014, Oak Cask, 2014, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The citrus and crisp spice on the nose give this blend a bright opening alongside its oak and dried fruit. On the palate, the direction is richer: toffee and chocolate sit with autumn fruits, while light peat smoke provides a gentle contrast. I tend to notice greener notes, so the touch of grass is an appealing detail here, though it doesn’t take over from the sweeter flavours. The floral, oaky finish, with dried fruit and spice, sounds like a fitting continuation rather than a change of course. It’s a balanced combination with enough small contrasts to hold my interest, particularly where the fresh accents meet the softer, sweeter ones.
