Joseph A. Magnus Murray Hill Club Bourbon, Batch No. 17, 51.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The appeal here is the balance between rich sweetness and a more savoury edge. Butterscotch, toffee and vanilla give the nose a cosy direction, while char keeps it from reading as simply sweet. The palate carries that sweet bourbon character into baking spice, and the lingering black pepper with a softly spiced, toasted finish sounds like a welcome change of pace. A clear, appealing set of notes, though the character seems firmly centred on sweetness and spice.
