Karuizawa Geisha Cask 18 Year Old, Sherry Cask, Cask #899, 1999, Number One Drinks, 60.6%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

There’s a useful balance here: fruit, malt and spice on the nose, then a soft, sweet palate with winter spice returning on the finish. That contrast is the part I find most appealing—the spice has sweetness alongside it rather than dominating the description. The long, smooth finish sounds like a fitting resolution. At 60.6% ABV, this is a notably strong bottling, but the notes emphasize softness as well as spice. A focused, spice-led character with a welcome sweet counterpoint.
