Karuizawa Prendre le Rythme 31 Year Old, Sherry Butt Cask, Cask #78, 1981, La Maison du Whisky, 60.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

90 / 100

The herbal notes on the finish give this a point of interest beyond its darker, richer flavours. Black cherry, tobacco-infused pralines and wet forest soils make for an earthy opening, while the palate shifts toward fruit, coffee and smoke. That contrast sounds appealing, though the chilli and peppery heat alongside dry ashes and tannins could make it a forceful style. The herbal edge keeps it from reading as all weight and sweetness.
