Lagavulin 1980 The Distillers Edition lgv.4/ 19 Year Old, Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask, Cask #lgv.4/464, 1999, 43%

88 / 100

There’s a compelling balance here between intense peat and the sweeter, darker fruit notes: rum-soaked raisins and plums meet salted chocolate and a salty sea breeze. The Pedro Ximénez sherry cask is a fitting detail alongside that rich fruit character, while the finish stays firmly smoky and maritime. It sounds more assertive than easygoing, but the sweet-and-salty contrast gives the whisky a clear point of approach.
