Laphroaig Highgrove Single Cask 12 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Cask #3010, 2017, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The mellow vanilla gives the bourbon-cask detail a softer side, but it feels like a small counterpoint to all that sea salt, seaweed and tarry peat. I’d be more drawn to the bold coastal character than an oak-focused read.

Nose
Sea salt, seaweed, stewed green apple, vanilla, hazelnut and tarry peat embers.
Palate
Salt-encrusted seaweed, smouldering campfires, blackcurrant, liquorice root and aniseed.
Finish
Sweet and powerful, with savoury notes leading to iodine and oily mackerel complexity.
