Laphroaig Port Wood, Bourbon & Port Cask, 48%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The fruit gives this Laphroaig an inviting counterpoint to its medicinal, ashy smoke: fresh raspberry and plum on the nose lead into stewed plum, red berries and dark chocolate on the palate. I like that the fruit stays vivid without making the smoky character seem like a background detail. Blackcurrant and red berries carry through the finish alongside dry smoke and oak, so this looks like a good fit for someone who enjoys fruit with a pronounced peaty edge.
