Ledaig Finest Collection Cask Strength 11 Year Old, First Fill Sherry Butt Cask, 2005, Hart Brothers, 56.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

This has a clear push and pull: intense peat smoke, salt and iodine meet sherry sweetness, red fruits and orange. The palate keeps that contrast going with gingerbread spice, mocha and plum, while the finish turns back toward ash and dry smoke alongside sweet red berries. It sounds assertive rather than delicate, but the changing balance of savoury smoke and fruit gives the character welcome depth.
