Lochside Rare Old 19 Year Old, Refill Cask, 1981, Gordon & MacPhail, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

A quietly appealing single malt, with a light, balanced character rather than a push for weight or intensity. Sweet malt, pear and biscuit give the palate a welcoming centre, while subtle citrus and soft oak keep it composed. The clean finish, with lingering malt sweetness and a little oak dryness, sounds like a fitting close. I’m drawn to that measured interplay: there’s enough detail to hold interest without making the whisky seem louder than it is.
