Macallan Aera Taiwan Exclusive, Sherry-seasoned Oak Cask, 2018, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The connection between vanilla and citrus is the main draw for me here. Vanilla sits with orange peel and sweet citrus on the nose, while the palate moves toward dried fruit richness, chocolate and smooth honey before a sweet citrus burst. That gives the sweeter elements some definition rather than making them feel like a single note. The medium-to-long finish brings vanilla back with gentle warmth, which suits my preference for that flavour. I like the continuity between the opening and the close, and the contrast offered by the palate. For my taste, the fruit remains present, but vanilla gives this single malt a clear thread from start to finish.
