There’s a clear thread of dried fruit, raisin and sultana, with ginger and oak spice keeping the sweetness of the toffee and caramel in check. I like the brighter turn toward zesty citrus and sweet orange; it gives the richer notes some welcome contrast. The 18-year-old Double Cask comes across as firmly rich and spice-led, but the vanilla and citrus keep the character from feeling one-note.
