Macallan Exceptional Cask 13 Year Old, European Oak Sherry Butt Cask, Cask #01, 2018, 65.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

86 / 100

The unpeated label is useful context, while the listed notes put the focus on dried fruit, spice and oak rather than a stated smoke character. The sherry-soaked fruit and dark chocolate sound like the strongest thread, with ginger and cinnamon giving the palate a drier edge. I like that contrast more than a simple run of sweetness. The finish is described as medium, so it sounds composed rather than especially drawn out. A rich, fruit-led style, with the oak and spice keeping it from reading as all toffee and vanilla.
