Mars Komagatake Tsunuki Aging, Bourbon, American White Oak Puncheon & Sherry Hogshead & Umeshu Cask, 2019, 56%

87 / 100

The lightly peated designation and smoked-meat note make smoke part of the character, but the listed flavours give it company rather than making it the sole focus. Red berries, green apple and caramel bring a fruit-and-sweetness contrast, while maritime saltiness adds another clear edge. That balance suits my interest in smoke when it sits alongside other flavours. The finish is described with earthy notes, citrus, salted caramel and charred oak, which keeps the contrast going.
