Miltonduff 8 Year Old, Palo Cortado Cask, Cask #AM 155, 2013, Asta Morris, 52%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The Palo Cortado cask is a useful point of interest, and the notes sound lively: dried fruit and orange meet bitter coffee and dark chocolate. I like that contrast, though the drying, tannic side sounds quite firm.

Nose
Sweet, meaty sherry, dried fruit, earthy notes, smoked meats, licorice, raisin-infused chocolate, herbs, autumn leaves, and mint., Ripe orange notes emerge with time in the glass.
Palate
Blood orange, leather, dried fruit, tobacco, smoked meat, and bitter earthy notes., Dried fruit contrasts with coffee grounds; the palate is dry and tannic, with bitter coffee and dark chocolate toward the end.
Finish
Long and drying, with bitter espresso, tobacco, and oak.
