The dried fruit and candied orange peel give this a generous sherry-cask direction, while the leather and engine-oil hints keep it from reading as simply sweet. I like that tension, and the palate’s tobacco, spice and sugar-coated almonds sound especially appealing. The warm, woody finish with berry compote gives the whole picture a firm, savoury edge. A rich, characterful Speyside malt, though its more unusual notes may not suit every preference.
