Nikka Yoichi Sherry & Sweet Single Malt, Sherry Cask, Official Bottling, 55%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

82 / 100

There’s a clear pull between sweet, fruit-rich notes and the smoky, savoury edge. Dates, red berries and cinnamon make the palate sound inviting, while subtle peat smoke keeps it from feeling straightforward. The finish has more challenging details, including tire rubber and burned newspaper, so this seems less easygoing than the sweetness might first suggest. It’s an interesting balance, though the smoky, musty side may not suit every preference.
