Octomore Scottish Barley 5 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Edition No. 17.1, 2026, 59.7%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

The pleasure here is the clear tug between rich sweetness and coastal smoke: vanilla custard and malt syrup on one side, earthy peat and salt on the other. Neither seems to crowd out the other, which makes this sound more inviting than a smoke-first dram. The high strength brings peppery heat, but the notes describe it as measured rather than forceful. A layered, confidently smoky single malt, with enough sweetness to keep the conversation friendly.
