The contrast between fresh, honeyed vanilla malt and thick medicinal peat smoke gives this a clear point of interest. I like that the palate’s maritime character, salt and ginger keep the richer smoke from being the only thing in view. Bitter citrus returns on the finish with dry oak, making for a distinctive, long-lasting close. It sounds like a bold but well-balanced direction for an Islay malt.
