The hogshead detail is useful context, but I’d be cautious about crediting it for any particular flavour here. What stands out in the notes is the contrast between earthy smoke and coastal saltiness, then a softer turn toward salted caramel, vanilla and buttery shortbread. Roasted nuts and a whisper of ash keep the finish anchored rather than simply sweet. That balance sounds appealing, while the cask’s specific influence remains hard to pin down.
