Suntory Royal 12 Year Old, Bourbon, Hogshead, Puncheon, Sherry & Mizunara Cask, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The listed Bourbon, Hogshead, Puncheon, Sherry and Mizunara casks make for a notably varied cask picture, without needing to assign each flavour to a particular wood. The notes move from chocolate, sweet malt and orchard fruit on the nose to a palate that pairs dark chocolate with green apple and bitter coffee. That mix of mellow sweetness and sharper, roasted edges gives this Japanese blend some welcome shape. The finish brings light spice, Mizunara oak and a hint of smoke; a tidy reminder that a cask list doesn’t need to read like a single-track story.
