Tamdhu Rare Old 39 Year Old, Sherry Cask, 1961, Gordon & MacPhail, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

Toasted almonds, candied orange peel and dark chocolate give the nose a rich opening, while banana, berry jam and vanilla bring a softer, sweeter counterpoint on the palate. Sherry oak and spice keep that sweetness measured, and the finish returns to ground spice and dried fruit with just a whisper of peat. That balance feels inviting rather than narrowly heavy, with the gentle peat adding definition without taking over.
