Tobermory, 1995, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

86 / 100

The contrast between sweet, fresh orange and the slightly dry, spicy finish gives this Tobermory a clear shape. Cypress adds a distinctive note alongside the subtle dried fruit, while the touch of salt keeps the lingering fruit from reading as purely sweet. The nose’s mixed peels and vanilla blossom sound inviting, with malty warmth as a quieter thread. There is enough detail here to suggest character without making the whisky seem overloaded.
